Her Story

Zakiya Traylor

Zakiya Traylor is a visionary leader, entrepreneur, minister, and community builder whose life’s mission is to inspire, uplift, and empower others. Born and raised on the eastside of Detroit, Zakiya attended Detroit Public Schools and developed a deep connection to her city and its people. With an entrepreneurial drive and passion for culture, she later opened both a record store and a hair salon on Detroit’s west side—creating spaces that celebrated creativity, entrepreneurship, and community connection. Her experience expanded into marketing and promotions for major record labels, where she gained expertise in branding, outreach, and event execution. Alongside her business ventures, she pursued professional licensure in Manicuring, Cosmetology, and as a Cosmetology Instructor. She continued her education at Schoolcraft College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

In 2003, Zakiya experienced a transformative faith journey that reshaped her purpose and direction. She became a licensed evangelist and later earned a Master’s degree in Theology from Destiny School of Ministry. Her ministry is centered on restoration, empowerment, and helping individuals recognize their God-given potential. As the Founder of the Inspire Me Awards Banquet, Zakiya created a platform dedicated to honoring individuals who make a meaningful impact in their communities. The banquet celebrates leaders, visionaries, and everyday heroes whose service and dedication often go unrecognized. Through this initiative, she continues her lifelong commitment to shining a light on excellence, unity, and community advancement. Zakiya is also the founder of the nonprofit organization Leave The Light On, established to provide housing, life skills, education, and essential resources for abused women and children seeking a fresh start. Above all, she is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life reflects resilience, faith, leadership, and an unwavering passion to help others walk confidently in their purpose.
